Far out: Design from www.outhousedesigns.com/
Checking our pulse: Yesterday, I got a T-shirt in the mail from a friend in Austin, Texas.
On the front, is the logo from the Shady Grove restaurant.
On the back in big lettering is this:
KEEP
AUSTIN
WEIRD
Support Local Businesses
Let’s think about this.
• Is it too late to KEEP BLUFFTON WEIRD?
• Is it a given that Hilton Head Island is a LOST CAUSE when it comes to weird?
In fact, has anyone ever seen anything Weird on Hilton Head?
I would suggest the Toadfish Festival, which had a good run going until somebody decided to squeeze in a Wet T-shirt Contest and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office had to horn in ...
• Is there anything WEIRD left in Bluffton?
• How far out do you have to go to get WEIRD these days? Keep Pritchardville Weird? Keep Yemassee Weird?
BUT, of course, we would have to have a different slogan.
What should it be?
• Keep Bluffton Eccentric?
• Keep Hilton Head Gated?
Whatever we decide, one thing’s for sure. We better support our local businesses.
Maybe this Keep Austin Weird TEST can help get what’s left of your left brain flowing.

You want weird, I'll give you weird
I worked at the Packet and lived in Bluffton for two years. After those two years, I moved to Athens, Ga. Trust me compared to Athens, Bluffton is the most straight-edge place in the world. At many given moment, you can walk down the street in downtown Athens and say, "That is the most bizarre thing I have ever seen" and actually mean it.

Weird Bluffton
Yes, it is too late for Bluffton's weirdness. I moved here three years ago, just in time to catch a fleeting glimpse of old Bluffton's weird, eccentric flavor as it was carried out in a bulldozer. The lack of eccentric character is another victory for the "I don't care" generation. Sometimes while wandering through "old town" there is an occasional weird ghost trying to rattle the cage but no one's listening. Too bad.

Hard to put it in a town code
Town planners have trouble putting into words what it is that makes Bluffton different.
I thought maybe readers could help.
I remember a pickup truck that had a tree growing through its bed. I think it was parked in the greater Eggs N Tricities area.
